Abstract:The cold current and low-level cloud snowfall in winter is a special weather phenomena over the north coastal area of Shandong Peninsula. Fifty months' data of day-to-day and hour-to-hour snowfall, temperature and sea-surface temperature at Yantai Meteorological Station within the period of November and next year's March from 1981 to 1990 is analysed,for studying the cause of the cold current and low-level cloud snowfall. The favourable circulation pattern, sea-air interaction, stability of the low layer, wind shear of the low layer and effect of orographic lifting are the main causes that form the cold current and low-level cloud and caused snow-fall.
