  • 1  Analysis of Decadal Variation of Annual and Seasonal Rainfall in China

    According to the analysis of average decadal anomaly percentage rate for annual and seasonal rainfall,the correlation coefficient of anomaly field with ten-year running mean is calculated, and ,t statistic value of the average anomaly between decades is tested.The result indicates that the rainfalls of annual and seasonal have the tendency of decadal variation.It is highly important for us to predict the decadal climate variation and short term climate variation of rainfall.

    The experiment of multiple drought preventing techniques for winter wheat was conducted in October of 1998 to June of 2000.It is shown that abundant soil moisture,deep ploughing,returning corn straw into soil,straw mulching,spraying drought preventing agent and limited irrigation are effective measures to prevent drought in the growing season of winter wheat and increase yield.Thus,the yield of winter wheat can be increased by over 10% and water utilization ratio increased by over 30%,and the economic benefit increased by 500-800 yuan per hectare.

    With the help of observations of 11 stations in Hunshandake sandy land of the Inner Mongolin Autonomous Region and the NCEP reanalysis data,the weather conditions,circulation features and physical diagnosis for the dust storm and fly ash processes on 5-7 April,2000 are investigated to put forward the scientific proofs in dust storm prediction research.
    4  The Character of Temperature Variation of Wuhan City during Recent 95 Years

    By using wavelet analysis method, the temperature variation of Wuhan city during recent 95 years (1906-2000) is investigated.The results show that Wuhan temperature variation is of the abrupt and periodical characters. The Wuhan climate experiences four phases and now it is in warming basic regim with high variability. The main period of Wuhan temperature is about 65,33,18 years in mean annual temperature and 67,27,18,13,7 years in winter.In addition,the serious cold/warm winter events in Wuhan city are also studied.

    Based on the 18-year experimental data of water consumption of rice, the relation was analyzed between water consumption and main meteorological factors, such as light, temperature and water. Regarding to the weather type in the near future as well as the characteristics of rice soil, the sum of water irrigation can be determined. Not only can it meet the physiological needs of water, but also decrease the sum of requirement of water. Also, water can be saved, the cost of agriculture reduced and a high yield approached.

    By using NOAA AVHRR data,the method of monitoring the large water body such as Luoma lake,Hongze lake,Gaoyou lake and Weishan lake is introduced.By detecting the reducing of areas of the water body,the drought condition in the northern Jiangsu province can be calculated and the information can be gained in time to make scientific decision to avoid heavy losses effectively.

    By hail size distribution data and radar observations,a new design for hail suppression is put forward on the basis of investigation and analysis of an operation of hail suppression at Yuncheng of Shanxi Province,assessment of hail suppression on severe hail weather process is investigated by using the collected hail size distribution data.
    8  A Study of Quantitative Classification for Winter Wheat Growing Condition by Utilizing Satellite Remote Sensing Data in Shandong Province

    Based on the correlation analysis of the remote sensing data of NOAA/AVHRR from 1989 to 1999 and the surface observations of wheat growing conditions at the twenty four stations in the same period, a model of quantitative classification for winter wheat growing condition in Shandong Province is developed. To eliminate the effects of different geographical locations on different development stages,the whole Shangdong province is divided into five ecotypes in order to establish the model individually.The model was successfully applied in the winter wheat condition classification in the year of 2000.

    With the help of radar data and surface intensive observations before typhoon Chebi landed over Fuqing,Fujian,in June of 2001,the movement features of a tiny typhoon Chebi are investigated.It is shown that the topographic forcing of the Xinghua Bay made typhoon Chebi suddenly move to the Xinghua Bay at great speed when it was approaching and landing. It is found that its potential disaster characteristic is significant,as a result of the wind speed jumply changes.Consequently,it is very necessary to make quantitively the wind speed forecast in time when a tiny typhoon is approaching and landing.

    The third typhoon ″Durian″ (0103) causing disaster in Guangxi is synthetically analyzed.The results show that the favorable synoptic situation and dynamical struture are indispensable conditions for producing typhoon heavy rain in Guangxi,such as the strong positive vorticity and convergence ascending motion,the convective instability in middle lower troposphere,the west/east wind jets and the strong vapor transfer. The typhoon ″Durian″ always moved along the high energy axis,the heavy rain core lay near the tip of high energy and unsteadiness tongue,and is consistent with the center of positive vorticity.

    By analyzing the routine weather data, satellite cloud picture and Doppler radar data in the paper, the result shows that the main reason resulting in local torrential rain in Northern Shandong Province on July 22 2000 was that mesoscale convective systems ,which formed under the condition of the aloft trough preceding the surface cold front and unstable energy accumulation in the vicinity of the aloft trough , moved backwards.

    Based on the weather situation,meterological elements,satellite image and rader echo, a squall weather process with high wind,tornado and hail occurred in Jiangxi on 28 April 2001 is analysed.The results show that is a typical squall weather event,and its trigger mechanism is caused by weak cold front, low-level jet,dew-point front and the topographic effect altogether.

    In the light of satellite images ,Wuhan digitized radar (WSR-81s) echo data,together with Wuhan auto-raingauges and mesoscale surface observationAL data obtained during July 21-22,1998, the features of the extremely heavy rain occurred in Wuhan city are analyzed.The extremely heavy rain information of mesoscale climatology and satellite images and radar echoes and mesoscale surface system activities in Wuhan city are summarized.
