    Abstract:
    Mankind lives in the atmosphere of the Earth. The health and diseases of a person are affected by meteorological conditions deeply. The prevailing continental monsoon Climate in our country brings us the cold dry winter and hot wet summer. So the special medicine Traditional Chinese Medicine was born in our country becasuse of the special climate naturally. The Traditional Chinese Medicine is a great contribution to the world, and of course it has enriched the great treasure-house of World Medicine-culture.

    Abstract:
    The relationship between respiratory tract disease and the meteorological conditons in Beijing area is analyzed by using the 712 cases of adult sick people from a hospital in Beijing and the data of daily air-pressure, temperature, humidity from the Beijing Observatory. The monthly variations of case numbers of respiratory tract disease are given. The results show the relationships between the fluctuation of meteorological conditions in Beijing and the more or less change of case numbers of respiratory tract disease. The regressive equations for forecasting respiratory tract diease classification month by month are given too.

    Abstract:
    The meteorological index forecast for clothing thickness is developed upon the foundation of research on the adjusting effect in the process of clothing exerting an influence on environment meteorological elements. It emphatically illustrates the relationship between the clothing thickness and temperature or wind-force between the clothing thickness and clothing material. Moreover, suitable clothes a man should take in his outdoor activities in varied seasons through the forecast of temperature and wind-force could be prodicted.
    4  The Significance of Methodology in Meteorological Science

    Abstract:
    The significance of methodology in modernization of meteorological science and technology is discussed and a few instances are presented to show the steering effect of methodological idea on the last 30 year's course of development of meteorology. A brief reflection is given to the divergence of methodological views which seems to have existed within the meteorological circle of China during the 1950s, 1960s, 1970s and 1980s. Historical and comparative analyses are made of the gap in the application of probability and statistics in meteorology between China and the U.S., and of its methodological reasons. It is recommended that special attention be paid to the methodological guidance of education in the higher meteorological institutions.
    5  Analysis of the Regularity and Forming Reasons of the Solar Radiation Variation of Henan in Recent 40 Years

    Abstract:
    The scarce annual global solar radiation data of Henan Province were extended to recent 40 years (1960~1997) by experimental formula, and direct solar radiation and scatting solar radiation data were calculated by another experimental formula for the stations with the only global solar radiation data. Based on the above analysis, variation period of the solar radiation was found by the method of variance analysis, obvious decreasing trend of the global solar radiation of Henan was found. The direct solar radiation is also decreasing on the one hand, while on the other, the scatting solar radiation of north and south of Henan is decreasing. On the contrary, the scatting solar radiation of middle of Henan is increasing. The preliminary conclusion was drawn that the increase of the TSP concentration is an important reason for the decrease of the global solar radiation.

    Abstract:
    The principles of channel selection of meteorological satellite are presented. The application of channels on a variety of satellites, in particular channels of AVHRR on NOAA and water vapor channel are introduced. Especially, it is suggested that the multi channel application is a direction for exploiting and applying the resource of meteorological satellites.

    Abstract:
    The technical project of long-distance and three remote control via optical cable of the 714CD Doppler Weather Radar at Zhengzhou and long-distance wireless and real-time data transmission, synchronous processing and display system was presented. The function of every circuit block and the key technique which was solved were described in detail. The technical project gave us a kind of advanced technical method for the single Dopper Weather Radar information (including raw data and image data) which could be shared at real time by several users at the same time.
    9  Climatic Characteristics Analyses on the Chilling Damage in Hainan Island

    Abstract:
    Analyses shows that the mean monthly temperature can't describe the chilling climatic characteristics in winter of Hainan because of the big interdiurnal temperature variation. Based on the growing conditions of crops, the climatic probability of chilling damage appeared on Hainan island (example Haikou) was calculated and it was put forward that there are relative winters in Hainan. Further, the cold index was introduced instead of the mean temperature to desciribe the chilling characteristics in Hainan's winter. The PCA expressed that there is obviously difference of chilling in winter between North and South of Hainan island divided by the Wuzhi mountain which lifts and detains the cold air to go southward. It also indicates that the appearing probability of the heave and middle degree chilling damage is 100% in the cold winter and the appearing probability of the heave degree chilling damage is 100% in the extreme cold winter from 1960s. Analyses on the 500 hPa circulation of the extreme cold winter indicates that it would be the extreme cold winter in Hainan island when the polar vortex lied on the shore of Arctic Ocean of the eastern Siberian.

    Abstract:
    Based on the division of Sanxia region into several conditional climatic homogeneous rain areas, the climatic Z-R relationships that vary with the range from radar were derived for different rain patterns such as the convective, the mixed-thunderstorm, and the mixed-shower by using of the first moment PMM proposed by Atlas. These relations can be used to comprehensively correct radar measuring error caused by the effects of the beam average and the C-band attenuation, etc.

    Abstract:
    Using the NWP products of the T106 model and the ECMWF from June to August 1998, the forecasting ability of the subtropical high and the confidence of the products are estimated. The parameters and the characteristic variables calculated from NWP products are analyzed. The products are interpreted for the significant weather events in the operational forecasting. The result shows that the ECMWF has powerful forecasting ability of the change tendency of subtropical high and significant guiding means for the medium range forecasting of the significant weather process and the rain area. The T106 products at the lead time 96 h are believable. The probabilities of the T106 product drop sharply when the lead time beyond 120 h and this is an important aspect of that should be improved the model.

    Abstract:
    Automatic meteorological station is easily struck by lightning as it is generally installed in open field and the digital circuit is fragile. After the designinig practice in the Shenzhen mesoscale automatic meteorological observatory network, some lightning protection methods for automatic meteorological station are discussed, and a complete solution is provided.
