Abstract:Based on NCEP/NCAR1 reanalysis data and GFS model data, using empirical orthogonal function (EOF) decomposition and Morlet wavelet transform to produce EOF low frequency (LF) synoptic map. The method can adjust the LF cycle according to atmospheric own LF characteristics. Analysis showed that: EOF LF synoptic map seems better in terms of location and flow of the system’s main LF low latitude areas critical convergence zone while Butterworth LF synoptic map is good at high latitudes LF systems. Also, we try to use GFS model forecast fields to get the next 1-10 days EOF LF forecast map to increase the extended forecast by LF synoptic maps method.
