The details of the cause of the early summer severe drought disaster in Yunnan Province in 1997 was diagnosed from two sides of general atmospheric circuclation and air sea interaction. As for the amount of early summer precipitation in Yunnan Province,a comprehensive forecast scheme which considers to combine physical diagnosis with statistical forecast was presented,the method has a reference value to make climate forecast in the area.
