Abstract:WINDEX is a new index presented by McCann in 1994 for the forecast of the downburst potential. Based on the analysis of a downburst event brought by severe thunderstorm on 2nd July 2001, it is found that WINDEX is a helpful index in some regions and is worthwhile to try farther.
